The Models Own Wonderland Nail Polish Collection for winter is just stunning and much more interesting than the usual shades and finishes that brands dish out during this time of year. Rather than focusing on reds, purples and darker colours, Models Own have concentrated on colours, textures and effects themed around snow, frost and ice. Each polish has some sort of glitter within it, be it chunky and in your face or fine and more subtle, which I adore. Let's get into my three favourite shades...
Models Own Wonderland Polishes all have a thick consistency. The colours are really pigmented, staying true to how they look in the bottle after drying. Each bottle costs £5, which is such great value. I'm a real fan of Models Own varnishes and this wonderful collection is no exception. I only picked up three of the five shades on offer, Jack Frost, Northern Lights and Southern Lights, but I love them so much that I may have to go and pick up the other two!
Jack Frost is a clear but cloudy varnish with flecks of iridescent sparkle that reflect both pink and blue suspended within it. Used alone, it takes three or four coats to achieve a fully opaque glitter finish, but it is my favourite way to wear this polish. If you want to make more of a statement, it also works nicely on top of various colours. You only need one or two coats when used in this way.
Southern Lights is by far my favourite nail polish of the collection. It's a very dense, multi-tonal, holographic glitter with a purple finish. On the nails, the sparkle is just unreal and catches the light as you move. To get an opaque finish, you only need two or three coats, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are. I would suggest wearing a top coat over the polish just to ensure the glitter stays as bright as possible and prevent the varnish from chipping as easily.
Very similar to Southern Lights, Northern Lights is a very dense, multi-tonal, holographic glitter, but this one has a pink finish to it. This is also very pretty and I do love it, but I think the purple version is just that little more special and unusual. Like its purple partner, it only takes around two or three coats to get a solid finish. Again, I'd suggest applying a top coat over it just to keep the polish looking its best.
