Recently, I noticed that my hair was beginning to look a bit lank, lacklustre and damaged. Cutting back on using heat to style my hair and arming myself with some really nourishing hair products was my plan of attack to hopefully transform my locks. On the hunt for the best products to help improve my hair health, I ventured into the realms of Redken. I'd only heard great things about this brand and wondered why I hadn't dipped my toe into their professional haircare range sooner. So, along with the All Soft Spray for an added boost of moisture, I also picked up the Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment for its reparative benefits.
Redken's advanced protein treatment spray is the product to turn to when your hair is in need of some serious TLC, and then you can reduce usage as your hair starts to improve. The treatment works to restore the lipid layer of the hair shaft, resurface the cuticle and increase shine. Amino acids within the formula target actual structural repair to strengthen every strand and prevent future damage. Making the hair more resilient is crucial when you're looking to grow your hair, and this product does exactly that.
How you use the Redken Extreme CAT Treatment is really important. After shampooing, you squeeze as much water out as possible and liberally spritz it all over your lengths and ends. At least five minutes later (I try to keep it on my hair for as long as possible), apply your conditioner as usual, leave it to soak in for a few minutes longer and then finally rinse. Initially after rinsing, your hair won't feel particularly different if you've used a regular condition. It's not a deeply nourishing mask that gives you a miraculous transformation and leaves your hair feeling silky soft in just one use - it's a protein spray that works from the inside out and improves hair health in the longer term. Once your hair has dried, however, it's sure to appear shinier and smoother due to the product's reparative effect on the hair cuticle. With continued use, you'll soon notice that your locks feel significantly stronger. You should have less breakage, signs of damage will be lessened and your hair won't tangle as easily.
It's critical to get the balance right when it comes to protein-packed hair treatments. They don't add moisture, so you have to make sure you're also supplementing your hair with leave-in hydrators and conditioning masks alongside use of the Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment. If not, your hair can get what's called protein overload. Without enough moisture, hair can become even more dry, brittle and vulnerable to breakage, so it's really important to focus on both protein and nourishment during your hair health journey. I don't use this treatment spray every time I wash my hair to ensure my hair isn't given too much protein all at once. I currently use it every third hair wash (alternating with moisturising treatments) and I plan to drop my usage to once every two to three weeks after my initial bottle is finished to maintain my protein levels once my hair concerns have hopefully resolved.
Personally, I've seen amazing results from using the Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment so far. My hair was snapping off significantly and I couldn't get it to grow past a certain length, but this treatment has really helped to minimise new damage after getting all my dead ends cut off. It's sleeker, shinier and far less frizzy. It doesn't get anywhere near as knotty, so I no longer need to brush it as vigorously. Although I've reduced the amount of heat I use when styling my hair, it hasn't felt or looked anywhere near as frazzled at the ends after using my straighteners or curlers. I've also noticed that tying my hair up doesn't leave me with as much of an obvious line of breakage, which used to be a real problem for me. Basically, it's been a hair life saver, and I really recommend it to anyone looking to reverse extreme hair damage from colouring, bleaching, heat styling and general daily wear and tear!
For such an effective product, I really can't believe how well priced the Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment is at only £14. I'd happily pay double that considering the difference it has made to my hair, but don't tell Redken that!
