Collection Eyes Uncovered Eyeshadow Palettes Review + Swatches: Nude, Nude Bronze & Nude Grey

Neutral eyeshadow palettes are my weakness when it comes to makeup. I have so many piled up in my beauty drawers, but that never stops me adding more to my collection. Granted - I do love to splurge on luxury brands, but it's always much more exciting to come across more affordable products that impress and rival premium formulas. Just like the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palettes. At just £3.99 each, these palettes are an absolute bargain and give some premium palettes a run for their money!

Other than sampling the much-loved Lasting Perfection Concealer that everyone raves about, Collection isn't a brand I'm particularly familiar with. Tending to gravitate towards the L'Oreal and Maybelline stands when browsing Boots, I've previously missed many of their new releases or hyped-up makeup heroes. After recently realizing that their entire range is priced at just £6 or less, including foundations and palettes, I went a little crazy and picked up a substantial selection of their products. Out of everything that came home with me, the Eyes Uncovered Palettes bowled me over the most.

The Eyes Uncovered range consists of six palettes, of which I have three. Being a girl that likes to stay 'safe' and wear neutral shades most often, I went for the Nude, Nude Bronze and Nude Grey options. For anyone that likes to wear more colour on the eyes, there's three more on offer featuring pinks, purples and blue-tones. Each palette contains six shadows, all with a mix of matte, satin and shimmer finishes and it seems like they're all pretty evenly matched in terms of quality. On the shelf, they don't stand-out or look particularly striking, but don't let the basic packaging fool you into thinking these are just any old average affordable eyeshadows.

What makes these palettes even better, is that they're cheaper alternatives to the famed Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palettes. They may not be exact dupes, as they only contain half the amount of shadows, but the shades they do contain are suspiciously similar to the cult blogger favourites. Quality-wise, they don't quite match the pigmentation levels of UD's shadows, but they are a hard brand to beat. Collection's shadows are just as buttery soft in texture and blend just as well, especially considering their ridiculously low cost.

Most of the shadows feel creamy and suede-like to the touch, but a couple of the more glittery shades do feel slightly grittier thanks to the chunkier shimmers. Even the matte shades are soft and easily blendable, which is refreshing for a cheaper palette. Worn alone, the eyeshadows do start to fade during the day, but using a primer underneath massively extends the longevity and keeps the colour looking perfect all day, for me. Fall-down is a slight issue when using a couple of the darker shades, due to the textures being so soft, but the lighter shades are all fine. When creating full-on looks with these palettes, it's best to start with your eye makeup, before applying foundation and concealer, to avoid your cheeks being peppered with shadow and shimmers once you've finished.

Nude has quickly become a staple in my makeup bag and is my most-used out of the trio. You really can't go wrong with a neutral palette that's full of matte and satin-finish shadows and the this one is full of them, making it an absolute must-have. With a line-up of much paler shades than the others, this is the best palette to create a bright-eyed everyday look with. To simply add some subtle definition to the eyes, this compact is perfect. The three lighter shades softly even-out the skin-tone, whilst the three darker hues can be used in the crease and alone the lash-line to add depth. It's such a foolproof palette to have and I'm annoyed that I didn't purchase it sooner!

If you like cooler tones and suit greys and silvers, then you'll love Nude Grey. This one has the most contrast between the lighter and darkest shades, with a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. I always find silvery shadows quite difficult to pull off, so I wasn't sure if I'd get much use out of this palette, but I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful all of the shades were when swatching them. With the addition of some smokey shades, this is a great palette to use to transition between a day to night look. If you're familiar with the Urban decay Naked Palettes, then I'm sure you'll notice the similarity between these shades and some of those within the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (foxy, suspect, verve, pistol, snakebite and blackout).

Nude Bronze is by far the prettiest palette of the three to look at. Full of warm, golden shimmery tones, it's right up my street. Surprisingly, though, its not the one I've been getting the most use out of. The only downside with this palette, is that it doesn't include any matte or particularly dark shades to define with. Not ideal when you want to create a complete eye look from just one palette, but it's great used in conjunction with other shadows or for applying a wash of shimmery colour over the lid. When swatched, you can see just how similar these shades are to those included in the original Urban Decay Naked Palette (vixen, sidecar, half baked, darkhorse, toasted and hustle).

If you're on a budget, or want to buy some affordable eyeshadows to use on an everyday basis, then the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palettes are perfect. They're incredible value for money at just £3.99 each and are even cheaper when they're regularly on offer in Boots. If anything, I'd say these palettes were priced too low for the high quality, which is always great! The cardboard case may not be the most glamorous, the applicator that comes with each palette may be pants and the lack of a mirror in the lid isn't ideal, but the plain black palettes are fairly attractive. Plus, it's handy to have a clear panel in the lid, to differentiate between multiples in your collection.

  20. I've admired these often but have often been disappointed with high street eyeshadows. The swatches look amazing, I can tell that they're beautifully pigmented. I'll probably pass on them for now, as I can see the similarities between Urban Decay shadows I already own. But they'd be a fantastic option when I finish up a shadow in one of my Naked palettes but don't want to buy a single shadow or an entirely new Naked palette to replace it. Xx
