LED light therapy has become an integral part of my daily at-home skincare routine over the last few years. I've tried various LED face masks from multiple brands and use one every. single. day. without fail as consistent use has literally transformed my skin. How Do You Use The LumaLux Face Pro LED Mask?
On unboxing your LumaLux Face Pro, you're greeted with your LED mask, charging cable, controller, in-depth instruction manual and handy bag to store your mask when not in use or travelling. Before using your mask for the first time, it does require a full charge, but the mask's power impressively lasts for weeks once complete, even with daily use. Pressing the remote control's power button switches the device on and activates mode one (red, infrared & deep infrared light). By pressing the mode button, you can cycle through the different light settings. The remote control counts down the minutes left of your three-minute treatment and then switches off automatically, along with the mask, once finished. Whenever the controller beeps and flashes after a treatment, it's time to recharge.
Made from clinical-grade flexible silicone, the mask is really lightweight, malleable and, most importantly, comfortable to wear. With integrated velcro straps and cushioned eye pads which effectively block the light from your eyes, you simply secure the mask to your head, pop the controller in your pocket and get on with whatever you fancy whilst the LED light works its magic. You don't have to faff with attaching removable straps or securing eye goggles before getting started, which has put me off using alternative devices previously. Just make sure to get a snug fit with the mask as close to your skin as possible for maximum benefit.
When Is It Best To Use The LED Mask?
One huge benefit of the LumaLux Face Pro LED Mask is that each treatment lasts for only three minutes, so it's the perfect choice for anyone short on time. You can easily fit sessions in during a period that suits you, whether you have a few free minutes whilst making your morning coffee, hanging up washing or reading your little one a bedtime story (the mask works especially well for robot-themed stories!).
Personally, I've got into the habit of using my mask after either my AM or PM cleanse as these devices should be used on clean, dry skin. I gently pat my face dry with a clean tissue and then use the LumaLux Face Pro whilst choosing my outfit or body moisturising. To rehydrate and dampen my skin once my treatment is finished, I'll liberally apply a nourishing toner before following with my usual serums and creams.
My favourite way to incorporate the individual settings into my routine is by selecting a different treatment mode each day, cycling through all settings during the week to give my skin the full works. Alternatively, you could focus solely on blue light for consecutive days if you're struggling with a breakout or yellow light if you've experienced an irritating skin reaction. You might prefer to go hard with modes one or two in the run up to a special event to really boost the anti-aging effect. No matter your skin goal, you can use the mask in whatever way works for you to achieve it.
What Results Can You Expect From Using An LED Face Mask?
When it comes to results, as with most skincare products and devices, LED light therapy won't transform your skin in just one use. It takes consistency. But you'll soon start to notice that you experience fewer breakouts than expected each month. Areas of hyperpigmentation start to fade more quickly than usual. Your skin feels much smoother and firmer when applying your regular lotions and potions. Full foundations start to feel unnecessarily heavy, and you start to think your skin looks better with less coverage. Concealer doesn't settle in your fine lines to the same extent.

Have I noticed A Difference In My Skin Since Switching From My Usual LED Mask To The Project E Beauty LumaLux Face Pro?
For sure. After using the LumaLux Face Pro consistently for a month, my skin has genuinely never looked better. Don't get me wrong, as you can see from my before photo, my skin was in pretty good shape prior to testing out the Project E Beauty LED mask, but this model has pretty much perfected my skin without me changing anything else in my skincare routine. Whilst my complexion was mostly clear, I did have a few minor active blemishes (one near my hairline and a couple around my chin), a wash of redness and was struggling to shift some residual post-inflammatory erythema (red marks from previous breakouts). That's pretty much all gone.
What's been most notable since utilising the blue light setting in particular is that I haven't experienced a single breakout. It's not even the initial blemishes that necessarily bother me, but the prominent, stubborn marks that are left behind for months afterwards due to my skin being so pale. They can make my skin look blotchy and prevent me from feeling 100% confident going makeup free. But in my after photo, you can see just how much Project E Beauty's mask has brightened and evened out my skin tone. Not only does my skin look clearer and calmer, but it feels it. I always say this about LED light therapy, but it feels like it strengthens my skin, making it more resilient. It isn't as easily irritated and no longer reacts to external factors (e.g., frosty weather, harsh winds, central heating and even using fragranced skincare products) in the same way. LED light therapy helps to give me the reliability in my skin that I think we all crave.
I'm 35, and the only wrinkles I have are very fine lines under my eyes and some minor elevens lines between my brows (exacerbated by not wearing my glasses enough and frowning - oops). I've never had any injectable treatments and can count the number of professional facials I've had on one hand, so it really is my at-home skincare routine and device use that keeps my skin in check. Yes, they're an investment, but LED masks can work out relatively cheap when you take cost per use into consideration. They're also simple and quick to use and can be slotted into anyone's skincare routine, whether you simply cleanse and moisturise or follow a 20-step Korean-inspired regimen.
Whilst many brands now offer LED masks at much lower price points, not all designs are equal. If a mask seems too good to be true in terms of cost, that could be a red flag in terms of efficacy. Similarly, it's important to question whether masks edging towards £1,000 really offer anything that warrants such a high cost.
