haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil & 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel Review
12:55Alice GraceA good skincare routine always starts with cleansing, and double cleansing is a must in the evening to rid the skin of all impurities, deep clean pores and create a perfect canvas for the rest of your routine. Whether you're caked in makeup or foundation free, starting with an oil to break everything down and then following with a hydrating formula to catch any last remnants and prep the surface for toners, essences, serums, masks and lotions is key. The double cleansing method originated in Korea, the home of advanced, cutting-edge skincare products, and so I've always been intrigued to compare K-beauty cleansers with my usual favourites. One Korean brand that has recently soared to the top of every skincare lover's to-try list is haruharu wonder, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the famous haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil* and haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel* to try for myself. But after testing them for a month, are these cleansers worth the hype?

The haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil is an icon for a good reason - it gets the job done. We can all be tempted to skip our nightly skincare routine when it's late, we're tired and our beds are calling, but this cleansing oil dissolves all traces of SPF, makeup (even waterproof mascara) and dirt so quickly that you're done in no time. It's unscented, doesn't sting the eyes, light in texture and less intense than other oils or balms. If you're scared to try cleansing oils in fear of clogged pores, this is the perfect option for you. haruharu wonder's concoction of nourishing ingredients (i.e., rice bran, olive, sunflower seed, macadamia seed and jojoba seed oils) leaves skin balanced rather than extremely squeaky clean or extremely moisturised, making it a suitable option for all skin types, even sensitive. Whenever my face is feeling particularly dry, I'll opt for a heavier cleansing oil to really bombard my skin with as much moisture as possible, but this lighter version is a great everyday all-rounder. It covers all bases and won't let you down. Emulsifying the oil with a drop of water after thoroughly massaging it across the face transforms the texture into an easy-to-rinse milky lotion. Best of all, skin isn't left coated with a film of grease that takes ages to thoroughly remove. The haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil simply leaves skin in a happy state, ready for the next steps in your skincare regimen. Costing £19 for 150ml, this fuss-free staple is priced in line with other K-beauty cleansing oils. Two and a half pumps of oil is all you need to effectively remove a full face of makeup and just one is ideal if you're barefaced, so the bottle should last for a good while. I've used mine regularly over the last month and I've barely made a dent in it!
I've always been wary of using foaming cleansers, even if they claim to be hydrating, as so many strip the skin of moisture to leave it tight and irritated. I really wasn't expecting to fall in love with the haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel because of this, but it's honestly the star of the brand's Black Rice Moisture line for me. I've used it every single day since first unboxing my tube a month ago, either as a second cleanse in the PM or morning wash in the shower. It's the only foaming gel I've tried that actively hydrates and noticeably infuses my skin with an extra layer of goodness. The formula is slightly acidic (having a PH of 5.5 to maintain a healthy, balanced skin barrier) and soap free, using natural rather than synthetic surfactants from coconuts to softly yet effectively cleanse. Containing the brand's famous fermented black rice extract, bamboo shoot bark extract, beta-glucan and coco-betain, this cleanser is packed with ingredients that work hard to protect the skin whilst getting rid of grime. The gel lathers well with only the smallest drop of product to create a dense, creamy foam that feels so luxurious. You can feel it refreshing the skin, but there's no horrible tight result, so you're not rushing to slather on the thickest cream you can find after use. Free from harsh fragrance, the foam is super gentle and soothing, and the pillowy bubbles calm a compromised skin barrier better than my usual cream cleanser picks. Often, foaming cleansers cause me to break out as a result of my skin overcompensating for the lack of hydration they provide, but the haruharu wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel hasn't caused a single blemish to appear. Instead, my skin has been plump, healthy and hydrated. At £14 for 100ml, haruharu wonder's cleansing gel is a total bargain in my eyes, and I'd even pay double that as I'm so impressed!
