Some months I struggle with cobbling together a post full of favourites and then others, my picks are glaringly obvious and it's a complete doddle. This time around, it's the latter. The past month was one of the busiest I've had for a while and it felt like I was away more than I was at home. With all that travelling, my makeup bag was stuffed with the same line-up for the whole month and, the new products that I did try, happened to make the cut into my monthly edit immediately after giving them a go.
Usually, I switch up my makeup on a daily basis, choosing different products to cater to my change in mood, the weather or how my skin is feeling. Falling into bad habits recently, the cooler climate has made me want to stay in bed past my regular, 7am wake-up call, so I haven't had as much time to rifle through my collection every morning. Instead, I've filled my makeup bag with a variety of staple products and, for once, I've been happy to stick with them for longer than a week.
Who wants to waste any precious minutes of a chilled Sunday, by spending hours in front of the mirror, piling on a tonne of makeup? Not me. Unless I'm having a make-up free day, wearing my comfiest pjs and embarking on a Netflix marathon, then I want fuss-free, five minute routine, full of products that do all the hard work for me. But, I have a few rules. No liquid foundation. No contouring. No bold lipsticks. All I want is a fresh complexion, bright, defined eyes and a flush of colour on the cheeks and lips.
February was just another cold, miserable month for me, up until my boyfriend and I hopped on a plane and headed to Dubai. Apologies for my lack of posts recently; I thought I'd have a little break and switch off from the Internet as much as possible, whilst on holiday. Regular uploading has now resumed. Thanks to my time in the sunshine, last month's favourites include some holiday-only additions, which wouldn't usually appear on the blog until May, at least.
Eye makeup becomes a lot richer and less precisely applied in autumn. Smudging jewel-tones and metallics all around the eyes gives a sexy, lived-in look, that can be achieved in a flash.
Summer is finally here and it's time to mix things up beauty-wise. To make the transition from Spring to Summer, there's a few makeup trends that I intend to incorporate into my look, including natural-looking, glowing skin and a bright lip.
May was all about brightening and lightening, for me. I've been really concentrating on getting my skin looking as good as possible, ready for Summer, by tweaking both my skincare and makeup routines. Of late, my makeup looks have mostly consisted of a flawless, but natural-looking base, bright eyes and a defined lip, which these products have helped me to achieve.
So, I thought I'd share with you the contents of my makeup bag, telling you about and showing you what I'm currently using religiously. I often forget about just how great the staples that I have in my various routines are, as I'm always searching for products which might top them. With new products constantly coming out, various collections being released and the sudden surges of hype about another must-have, my poor, little selection of holy grail products get a bit neglected. I'm sure I'm not the only culprit of that, am I?
So, today, I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite drugstore makeup items. These cheap and cheerful products have replaced some of the high-end products that I've been loyal to for years, proving that more expensive items aren't necessarily better. Although, saying that, it seems that the drugstore brands are upping their prices and some products, especially foundation and mascara, aren't too much cheaper than some premium versions.
